The museum has been housed since 1903 in a castle classified as a historical monument. A major medieval building, the latter was built in the second half of the 12th century as a residence and stronghold for the Lords of Nemours, who became dukes in the 15th century. At the helm, Jean-François Muller and his wife who lasted thirteen years during the S'Zawener Stuebel in Saverne, then three years the Carpe d'Or in the Alsatian city, near Lorraine, returned to its roots by settling down in his hometown.
