Waterways and lock closures

Boating vacations rely on waterways, and even during boating season navigation may not always be possible. Disruption could be caused by a lock or bridge needing maintenance, or there may not be the right level of water to safely navigate.

Use the information below to see all of the current navigation restrictions in place in our boating regions:

Lock opening times

  • May 17 to June 23: Monday to Thursday 10am-4pm, Friday to Sunday 9am-7pm. We recommend booking early check in and late check out for 3 days short breaks
  • June 24 to September 2: Monday to Thursday 9am-6pm - Friday to Sunday 9am-7pm
  • Sept 3 to Oct 14: Monday to Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday to Sunday 9am-5pm. We recommend booking early check in and late check out for 3 day short breaks

  • Due to maintenance works, the Juar lock (between Jarnac and Angouleme) will be only operational before 8am, between 12 and 2pm and after 5pm.

Our Potsdam base will be affected by maintenance work at the Zaaren locks. Only return cruises on our Cirrus boats will be operating until the 31st July 2019 from our Potsdam base. Our base in Marina Wolfsbruch will be operating as usual so return cruises from there will not be impacted. However, due to the maintenance work you will be unable to cruise from Marina Wolfsbruch into Berlin until this work is complete.

During the Sail 2020 Event (12-16 August 2020), you won’t be able to cruise to Amsterdam. You can still easily reach Amsterdam by mooring at Weesp, Utrecht or Gouda and taking a quick train.

From 21st October onwards, the lockmasters in Scotland will be looking after multiple locks. This may mean that it will take you a little longer to pass through. We recommend that you call ahead of reaching the lock to make them aware that you will need their assistance.
