Reviews for the The Delights of Aquitaine Cruise
Great personalized service - very helpful staff!! Fifth rental with le boat - best boat to date.
La Garonne was one of least scenic canals to date
Great vacation! We left all stress at Mas d´Agenais and enjoy the tranquility, the green, the peacefull waters, the little villages and the quiet nights.
Auvillar, Moissac and Montauban were superb. A MOST see in this trip. I would suggest to find out the dates when markets are open. We always arrived to late or too soon and missed that fun. We traveled with our little dog and she enjoyed the trip more than anyone. We will repeat the experience for sure!
The cruise itself was a delight. Great stretch of canals, interesting communities. Look out for the pichonieres (sp) or pigeon houses.
a fantastic lunch at Michele Trama's 2star restaurant in Puymirol. The market in Agen is fantastic.
My wife and I rented a Countess (2 cabins+saloon) from Leboat for 11 nights leaving September 22 from le Mas d'Agenais down the Baise overnighting in Nerac then back to the Garonne taking out at Montauban. We chose the Garonne because of the fine food and wines we have previously experienced in the Aquitaine the last two years. There is very limited traffic in late September and we only had a couple of very light rain showers. The staff of LeBoat are very helpful as our luggage was lost for 4 days. We carried a cell phone which allowed them to locate us on the canal and deliver our luggage. Not a problem, we bought a couple of changes and were surprised how little we actually needed on the boat.
There are several interesting villages to stop and I suggest that you identify and stop when and where the local markets are so you can get fine quality provisions and excellent local wines. Purchase a Du Breil guide to the region that will give you that information as well as the number and location of the locks. We got ours at www.carte-fluviale.com for 18 euros. LeBoat provides a Du Briell (taken apart and in a spiral binder that is to be returned). We were able to better plan our stops based on the information in the guide before we left home. I also suggest that you rent an outside grill for fresh lamb, chicken, duck breast and vegetable purchases. Be sure to bring your favorite spices, extra(1/day) trash bags and disposable food containers - they are easily packed, don't take up much room and come in very handy. A six-pack wine tote bag was a life saver. We also brought an extra towel each with a cord clothesline to dry in the cabins during the day. Remember, this is not a hotel so purchase or bring your favorite personal items (soap, shampoo, etc.) before you board the boat.
Excellent experience - we were new to canal cruising and could have done with a little more guidance on using locks - especially getting ashore! - given our average age was 77 years
