  • The Rheinsberg Cruise

The Mecklenburg & Brandenburg cruising area in north east Germany is a fairytale waterworld of more than 1000 lakes connected by peaceful waterways and canals where islands, castles and medieval villages are all waiting to be explored and modern-day marinas await your visit.

On land, pine forests, ancient woodlands and a rolling countryside of cornfields are perfect for walks, bike rides, horse-riding and picnics; a wide range of watersports can be tried for extra fun on the water too. Cruising from our base in Jabel, stop at the charming 13th century village of Plau am See which lies at the outlet of the Müritz-Elde waterway. Its crooked timbered houses, old mill house and medieval tower with its graceful sloping roof remind you of a bygone era.

Nearby Waren, with its modern marina and charming old quarter is a popular holiday destination – and a great place to swap your cruiser for a steamboat for the day!

In Mirow, on the southern shore of Lake Mirow, try the local specialty, smoked eel or the catch of the day at one of the waterside restaurants. On the edge of Lake Grienicksee, enjoy a walk in the beautiful park surrounding Rheinsberg Castle, where you can enjoy wonderful open-air classical concerts during the summer.

The old 18th century village of Rheinsburg is also well worth visiting. The eastern shores of the mighty Lake Muritz border the stunning Muritz National Park where if you are lucky you’ll see red deer and rare birds such as white-tailed eagles, cranes and ospreys. On the Malchower See is the old island town of Malchow - a good base from which to explore and enjoy the beautiful surrounding waterways and to watch the wonderful wildlife and birdlife at close quarters
