Why do we recommend stopping here?

There is plenty to do here, besides the traditional sightseeing - cinema, theatre, shopping, museums, bars and restaurants. The museum of Natural History is espcially good for children of all ages and is situated in a 19th century house and garden with exhibitions geared at learning for children.

What is there to see?

Visit the old quarter on the hill with its colombage houses or the Catherdral of St Etienne or go to one of its summertime concerts June-20 Aug 22h00 or 21 Aug- 30 Sept 21h30. Don't miss the beautiful intricate clocktower, 14th/15th century.

What can I visit?

At the lock of Batardeau visit the old waterworks now an environmental museum. Visit the Abbey St Germain withs its bronze/Roman collection and artefacts, Carolingian crypt, and 9th century frescoes

Is this place famous for anything?

Le Quai Bar/Restaurant before the Revoution was the passenger barge's warehouse and offices with stables that hauled the boats, later the stables were converted into a public washhouse - now you can eat there! The outside seating is in the beautiful place

Paul Bert 1833-1866 an Auxerre scholar, physiologist and statesmen. He has aroad, bridge and school named after him. Statue of Auxerre poetress Marie-oel in the Place de l'Hotel de Ville

Mooring

Moorings in the Port opposite the main town with all facilites cost 9-15 € depending on boat size; includes water, toilets, Wifi.: washing machine 6€. Otherwise there are free moorings on the town quayside or in the Parc de l' Arbre Sec, which is close by on your right once you've gone through the first lock of the Nivernais canal, which is at the end of the town quay.
