Why do we recommend stopping here?

Windsor is home to two of England's premier tourist attractractions - Windsor Castle and Legoland and the moorings are conveniently situated close to the railway station offering the possibilty to explore further afield. Windsor and Eton offer a good range of shops and the Leisure Centre adjacent to the moorings has an indoor swimming pool and health spa, sauna cabin and tiled steam room. Don't forget to hire a bike from us before you leave, as there is a wealth of beautiful countryside, woodland, parkland and the riverside scenery of the Thames Path to explore.

What is there to see?

Walk the Heritage Trail from Windsor Castle, across the River Thames to Eton College and discover 1,000 years of history. The walk takes in many interesting buildings, including the Kings Head Pub where Shakespeare is said to have written “The Merry Wives of Windsor”. The building which is now the Tiger Garden Restaurant is said to have been frequented by King Charles II and in front of the restaurant is an original pair of stocks and a Victorian post box.

What can I visit?

Windsor Castle, the oldest, and largest occupied castle in the world, is said said to be the Queen's favourite residence. Windsor Great Park, set in over 4500 acres is the perfect place for a picnic, or a relaxing walk. The Savill Garden within Windsor Great Park is set in over 35 acres and is considered to be the finest of its type. Dorney Court, built in 1440 boasts 15th and 16th century oak and beautiful 17th century lacquered furniture. Eton College dates from 1440 and is one of the most exclusive schools in the world. Nearby Legoland has more than 50 thrilling rides, shows and attractions

Is this place famous for anything?

Don't miss the The Changing of the Guard ceremony. The Guards are usually accompanied by a band and you can see them as they march up the High Street - from 10.50am onwards. They then go into into the Castle, but to see the actual ‘changing’ ceremony you need to have paid to go into the Castle. The Guards march every day during April, May, June and July, but never on a Sunday.

There is a wide selection of gift shops around the castle together with stylish shops and restaurants in Windsor Royal Station, a shopping concourse. Eton, just across the river, offers boutique shopping and antiques.

Mooring

Overnight moorings are available along the riverbank in the main stream of the river, up to the eastern end of Baths Island/ Deadwater Ait (before Windsor Castle and Windsor Bridge) and further berths are available inside the island from below the Railway viaduct on both the island and main riverbanks. So long as you don't leave it too late in the afternoon, you should find it relatively easy to moor here. There is a mooring fee of approx £5 per night and tickets are valid for a period of 24 hours from midday to midday. Valid moorings tickets give entry to the Windsor Leisure Centre, adjacent to the moorings, at a lower rates - you should show your mooring ticket to the reception on entry to the Centre.

Are there any waste pump facilities here?

No, but you can use the pump out facilities at Boveney Lock, just before Windsor

There are 2 rubbish disposal points points here. One is on the main riverbank where the footbridge crosses to Baths Island, and on the other is located on the main riverbank immediately upstream of the Baths Island.   

Are there toilet/shower facilities here?

No, but there is a toilet and shower at Boveney Lock, if required and of course, showers in the leisure centre faciltiies there.

Is there a bank?

HSBC, Barclays and TSB Banks are all situated in the High Street and Thames Street.
