Marlow is an attractive and historic town with a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as rail and bus connections for sightseeing further afield.
There are many historic buildings, including Marlow House, built around 1721 for the first Earl of Portsmouth and TS Eliot's house at 31 West Street, The house the poet Shelley lived in for about a year from March 1817 is adjoining Sir William Borlase's School It was during this time that Shelley wrote his 'Revolt to Islam', while Mary Shelley finished 'Frankenstein', which is probably one of the most famous books written. In West Street,The Ship Pub is a 16th-century building constructed with ship's timbers, which can still be seen. Marlow suspension bridge (by W Tierney, the same engineer who constructed the bridge between Buda and Pest in Hungary) is a focal point in the town.
Millennium Maze in Higginson Park was built to celebrate the millennium. It is a multi-coloured brick path, laid in the grass and covering an area of about 22 metres diameter
Marlow was famous for its fine needlework as well as for its lace, and part of the trousseau for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter was made here.
The poet T.S. Eliot (1888-1965) lived at 31 West Street for a.short time towards the end of the 1st world War. A plaque on Bampton House (100 High Street) commemorates the internationally acclaimed artist Edward J Gregory, most famous for his painting Boulters Lock - Sunday Afternoon, which took seven years to complete.
Thames Lawn', is an 18th century building, originally with three storeys, and its main claim to fame was as home to James Bond's 'M' in the movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.
Marlow holds a small market every Saturday morning in the Dean Street Car Park. This is a small market with a few stalls selling things such as fruit and veg and flowers. There is also a farmers market held on the first Wednesday of the month down near the bridge. This market sells meats, cheeses and a lot of local produce so is well worth a visit. Nearby High Wycombe has a regular market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and sells lots of different things from groceries and clothing to net curtains and sweets.

Marlow isn’t the easiest place to find a mooring but the best moorings are found downstream of the lock. There are reasonably priced moorings above the bridge on the right hand bank, which can be paid for in the leisure centre. Public mooring is also available at Higginson Park and adjacent to Gossmore Lane. To get to the town you need to walk along the Thames path from the mooring to reach the High Street.
The next nearest pump out is at Hurley Lock, after Henley and before Marlow.
There are public waste bins at Temple Lock
