Maidenhead is a pretty town lying alongside the Thames and the site of many important historical events. Throughout the years, due to its close proximity to London (approx 30 miles), it has been an important stopping place for travellers and is today an attractive suburb. What can I visit?

Clivedon, now owned by the National Trust. The magnificent mansion, once home to Nancy Astor and which played a prominent part in the Profumo scandal, is now let as a private hotel, but parts of it are open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays. The beautiful formal gardens and woodlands are well worth a visit and are open daily from 11.00-18.00. Taplow Court is a mid-19th century mansion set high above the Thames. Today Taplow Court is the home of a lay Buddhist society and is open to the public on Sundays and Bank Holidays during the summer months. It is also a lovely place to have a picnic, as the grounds occupy 85 acres.
