Why do we recommend stopping here?

The feeder canal (la Rigole) bringing in the water from the Black Mountains is still paved with its original tiles. The obelisk here was erected as a tribute to Riquet who conceived and built the Canal du Midi, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What can I visit?

In the village of Montferrand itself, visit visit the paleo-christian church and cemetery (by appointment) where there are archeological vestiges of Roman and medieval times. A collection of discoidal crosses against the church wall. A lighthouse to help the aircraft of the Aeropostale (Air Mail) service flying between Toulouse and Dakar, and between Toulouse and Santiago de Chile can also be seen here, as can a Chappe telegraph house.
