Why do we recommend stopping here?

This is one of the most popular stops on the Canal du Midi , a very small but very attractive village.

What is there to see?

Walls covered with ivy pink flowers and a majestic old bridge, the circular tower where ice was kept in the summer and an intimate chapel and a remarkable bookstore

Is this place famous for anything?

In the 18th century, the passenger boats which regularly plied the canal took 4 days to go from Agde to Toulouse . Le Somail was one of the staging posts on that epic journey.
