Beziers is the second largest town on the Canal du Midi. Once a Roman city; it's rich in history including the Cathars. Today it is renowned for winemaking, rugby summer festivals and bullfights.
What is there to see?
There's lots to explore here, including the Allées Paul Riquet, the Roman church of La Madeleine and the St Etienne Cathedral. The best way to go in town from the harbour is going through the public garden "Le Plateau des Poétes" and walking to the historical centre of Beziers where there are some attractive houses.

It is the birthplace of Paul Riquet, who built the Canal du Midi

Les Halles (covered market) are open every morning and a huge open market is held on Fridays in the town centre with the famous flower market on the Allees Paul Riquet
