Why do we recommend stopping here?

Terryglass is a charming village which has won numerous tidy towns awards and has been described as Ireland's "most absurdly beautiful small village". It is a great place to relax and unwind. The harbour at Terryglass is quite small and lends itself to a friendly, sociable atmosphere. A short walk up the hill will bring you to the village itself which has a craft centre, shop and two pubs - which are both renowned for good food, music and craic.

What is there to see?

There are some beautiful craft shops and local food shops in this area, so be sure to allow extra shopping time on your trip.

What can I visit?

Terryglass is the site of a 6th century monastic settlement, of which only a small part remains, but the area is very historic.

Is this place famous for anything?

Terryglass Arts Festival 24th August. If you are in the area at the end of August, try not to miss the Terryglass Arts Festival which is now in its fifth year. This is a family based festival and features lots of entertainment, whether you are aged 4 or 94.

Insider Information

There are two spring wells. One, St Augh's, known locally as the Eyewell, is located at the quay. Named after the saint who live there in the 9th Century, local folklore maintains that the water from this well has curative powers. The second spring, known as the Headache well is located further up the village. The water here is reputed to cure migraine.
